Uttar Pradesh's Invest UP and Northern Railway's Lucknow Division signed an MoU to boost the state's industrial and logistics infrastructure. The agreement allows investors to lease railway land at a concessional rate of 1.5% of the industrial or circle rate for 35 years to develop warehousing and logistics facilities. Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Singh highlighted that improved logistics, including seven operational expressways, will accelerate industrial growth. The MoU supports sustainable transport by requiring rail use for either raw materials or finished goods. This partnership aligns with the UP Warehousing and Logistics Policy 2022, offering incentives for projects investing over Rs.20 crore. Ongoing projects include the Dadri logistics hub and Varanasi's freight village.Read more

The warehousing sector in eight prominent Indian cities experienced a 2-5 per cent annual increase in average monthly rents during the January-March period, driven by strong demand, according to a report by Knight Frank India. Mumbai, the largest warehousing market, recorded a 5 per cent rise in rents to INR 24.7 per sq ft, while Kolkata saw a similar increase to INR 24.8 per sq ft. Ahmedabad, Pune, Delhi-NCR, Chennai, and Bengaluru registered rent growth between 3-4 per cent, while Hyderabad experienced a more modest 2 per cent rise. The report highlighted that the rent growth momentum, which began in 2021, has persisted due to inflationary pressures on construction materials and a tight supply scenario.Read more

Rhenus Group, a major player in European logistics, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI), which is part of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, to support multimodal cargo transportation across important national waterways. The collaboration will see Rhenus Group commencing scheduled barge operations aimed at enhancing inland waterway logistics. Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal highlighted the initiative as a step towards creating a greener, cost-effective, and more efficient logistics network. The first phase will involve deploying 20 barges and six pushers, targeting the transportation of over one million tonnes of cargo annually by the end of 2025.Read more

Essar Group's GreenLine Mobility Solutions has partnered with Shriram Finance to deploy a new fleet of LNG-powered trucks, as part of its ongoing efforts to promote sustainable logistics. The deployment was flagged off at Chakan, Pune, and marks a significant step in GreenLine's strategy to decarbonise India's transportation sector, which contributes nearly 15% of the country's carbon emissions. With a current fleet of over 650 LNG trucks serving key industries, the company plans to expand to 10,000 LNG and EV trucks, supported by a network of 100 LNG refuelling and EV charging stations nationwide. This initiative is expected to curtail carbon emissions by up to 1 million tonnes annually.Read more

The Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) has requested INR 486 crore from the state industries department to develop integrated logistics clusters across Unnao, Agra and Aligarh districts. The funds will support basic infrastructure like roads, power, water, sewerage and security walls, across 344 hectares of land earmarked for manufacturing and defence-related companies. With 33 Integrated Manufacturing and Logistics Clusters planned statewide, this targeted investment aims at attracting global defence manufacturers to Uttar Pradesh's industrial corridors and fast-tracking land allotments to investors. Indospace has leased 1.27 lakh square-feet of warehousing space to Steelcase Asia Pacific Holdings at its industrial park in Pune. The lease, which began on January 29, is for a five-year term at a monthly-rent of INR 46.42 lakh, calculated at INR 36.37 per square-foot. The agreement includes two units, with Steelcase providing a six-month security deposit of INR 2.78 crore. According to the lease terms, the rent will increase by 5% annually. Industrial and warehousing demand in Mumbai and Pune declined sharply by 47% in Q1 2025, totaling 17 lakh square feet, according to Colliers India. Mumbai recorded 10 lakh square feet and Pune 7 lakh square feet, both significantly down from the previous year. Despite regional dips, overall demand across India's top eight cities grew by 15%, reaching 90 lakh square feet. Key drivers included engineering, e-commerce, 3PL, and automobile sectors. New supply rose to 94 lakh square feet, supported by institutional capital and robust infrastructure growth.
