Mapusa, a key town in North Goa, is undergoing major infrastructure upgrades aimed at easing traffic and enhancing civic amenities. A key project is the INR 8 crore road widening from Gandhi Chowk to Bodgeshwar Temple, expanding the 520-meter stretch into four lanes to improve access to tourist hotspots like Calangute and Anjuna. Civic improvements include a six-storey commercial complex with parking, a refurbished municipal building turned modern library, and an expanded fish market with a new exhibition floor for self-help groups. Additionally, a new municipal administrative block is under construction. These projects mark Mapusa transformation into a modern, better-planned urban hub.
Mapusa, a key town in North Goa, is witnessing a wave of infrastructure upgrades aimed at easing traffic, supporting commerce, and enhancing civic amenities. One of the most anticipated projects is the INR 8 crore road widening from Gandhi Chowk to Bodgeshwar Temple. This 520-meter stretch will be expanded into four lanes with a central median, footpaths, and upgraded culverts, helping decongest routes leading to tourist hubs like Calangute and Anjuna. Multiple civic projects are in progress to modernize the town?s core. A six-storey commercial complex near Alankar Theatre, with retail outlets, offices, and parking for 52 vehicles, is being developed at a cost of INR 20 crore and is expected to be completed by March 2024. Meanwhile, the historic municipal building is being refurbished into a modern library with designated reading areas and updated interiors at a cost of INR 3.8 crore, with completion targeted for January 2024.
Mapusa?s fish market is also undergoing expansion, with a second-floor exhibition space for self-help groups being added under Phase II of the INR 4.79 crore project. Although the structure is nearly complete, it awaits formal handover. Additionally, a three-storey administrative block for the Mapusa Municipal Council is under construction, comprising basement parking, commercial floors, and a council hall, though its timeline remains uncertain.
Together, these civic and housing initiatives signal Mapusa?s transition into a more modern, well-planned urban center while striving to preserve its cultural essence and improve everyday life for its residents.
