The housing and urban development department of Odisha has introduced a rental housing initiative to provide affordable accommodation for migrant workers and students in urban areas. With monthly rents fixed between INR 500 and INR 1,500, the scheme has already seen one complex become operational in Bhubaneswar while others remain under construction. The programme is aimed at improving access to safe and economical housing for vulnerable communities.
The housing and urban development department of Odisha has launched an affordable rental housing scheme intended to support migrant workers, students, and low-income groups in urban locations. Under this project, residential complexes are being developed across cities, with one facility in Bhubaneswar already welcoming tenants. The monthly rent has been kept within the range of INR 500 to INR 1,500, making it an accessible option for those seeking reasonably priced housing.
Officials highlighted that the scheme has been designed to address a pressing requirement for dignified and secure rental accommodation for economically weaker sections. They noted that the initiative would significantly improve living conditions while easing the financial burden on those who often struggle to secure proper housing in urban centres.
By ensuring affordability without compromising on quality, the Odisha government has positioned the programme as a socially impactful measure that could serve as a model for other states seeking to enhance inclusive urban development.
