During the visit, Mr. Hallier met Dr Sanjay Mukherjee, Metropolitan Commissioner of MMRDA, to discuss potential areas of collaboration in urban infrastructure, sustainable mobility, and integrated transport systems. The discussion highlighted opportunities to align Mumbai's infrastructure planning with global standards and practices followed in Germany.
The interaction focused on key areas such as metro rail expansion, better integration of different transport modes, and improving overall urban mobility systems. Both sides also discussed the importance of adopting proven international approaches to planning and execution, especially as Mumbai continues to expand its transport network.
Officials indicated that there was a shared understanding on the need for innovation, sustainability, and efficient governance in building future-ready cities. Germany has previously collaborated with Indian agencies on mobility and urban infrastructure projects, particularly in areas such as technology adoption and planning frameworks.
The meeting also reflects ongoing efforts by MMRDA to engage with global institutions to bring in technical expertise and improve project execution standards. With multiple metro lines and infrastructure projects underway across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, such collaborations are seen as important for long-term urban planning.
